About the Role
As a Technical Accounting Senior Consultant, you'll play a key role in delivering specialized accounting advisory services to our dynamic client base, including high-growth technology, biotechnology, professional services, and consumer products companies. You'll support our clients through complex accounting and financial reporting matters while working alongside senior leaders and mentoring junior team members.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties
Support and manage technical accounting advisory projects involving revenue recognition (ASC 606), stock-based compensation, business combinations, goodwill, leases (ASC 842), and financial reporting
Assist in drafting financial statements, preparing footnotes, and performing quarterization procedures including flux analysis and support for cash flow reporting
Set up and review workpapers and calculations related to ASC 340-40, earnings per share, stock-based compensation, and internally developed software
Perform technical research using resources such as FASB Codification, SEC / EDGAR, Intelligize, and Big 4 guidance to support client deliverables
Draft components of technical accounting memos and other workpapers with supervision
Lead assigned workstreams or components of a project, managing internal timelines and contributing to overall project success
Collaborate with client personnel and internal team members to deliver high-quality outcomes and maintain strong client relationships
Mentor and review work of Staff Consultants, providing feedback and supporting their development
Identify opportunities to improve client processes and suggest practical solutions
Participate in training sessions, internal initiatives, and knowledge sharing activities
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred
MBA / MS / MA degree is a plus
3+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, consulting, or a corporate accounting role
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with exposure to ASC606, ASC 842, ASC 805, ASC 340-40, and stock-based compensation
Knowledge of IFRS standards is a plus
Prior experience drafting financial statements and technical memos is preferred
Ability to manage components of client engagements and meet deadlines with limited supervision
Experience with accounting software tools such as NetSuite, Carta, and Workiva is a plus
Experience working with AI-powered tools or data analytics platforms to enhance decision-making or streamline workflow processes
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and platforms relevant to accounting and financial reporting
Innovative mindset with a track record of proposing or implementing tech-enabled improvements in accounting or reporting environments
Strong Excel skills and familiarity with data analysis or workflow tools is desirable
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in MS office products, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required
3 years of experience in related field
Must be able to work in a team environment
Presentation skills mandatory
Must possess analytical skills
Proficient use of applicable technology
Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing within all levels of an organization, both internally and externally
Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
Work Location
We ideally seek a candidate located within the San Francisco Bay Area, in proximity to our CBIZ office, to support a flexible hybrid work model. However, all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, as we remain open to remote work arrangements.
The annual salary target for this job in this market is $90,000-$130,000. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, and skill set of the individual selected for this position.
