Job Description

As a Engineer, AI Agents, you will contribute significantly to the agility and productivity of our IT organization by building AI agents that challenge the boundaries of traditional computing capabilities. Your work will be crucial in enabling our IT organization (Business Technology Solutions) to fulfill its mission of using technology to propel AbbVie to the forefront of our industry.

This role is part of the Digital Experience and Innovation group within the Business Technology Solutions department. We set the vision for our digital employee experience and collaborate closely with other groups to bring that experience to life.

This role is on site in Lake County, IL; we offer flexibility to work from home approximately 2 days / week

Responsibilities

Deliver clean, scalable, well-optimized Python code

Work with a team of experts to determine optimal system design

Develop sensible unit tests and anticipate edge cases

Implement agentic workflows, from scratch where necessary

Understand the LLM landscape and help to evaluate the right tools for the right tasks

Support multiple projects and advocate for optimal solutions

Learn new skills and approach problems creatively

Work within constraints, including cost and security

Multi-task and work within timelines

Effectively organize and present project objectives and progress. Contribute to technical publications and presentations.

Independently design and develop data, software, or technology solutions to answer scientific or business challenges / questions.

Maintain constructive relationships with internal clients, affiliates, subsidiaries, and vendors to further the mission, vision, and goals of the organization.

Understanding the value-driving objectives of the project as well as his / her role in achieving those objectives. In line with this, modify approach and escalate open issues to ensure execution success.

Keeps stakeholder informed through effective verbal and written communication.

Produce and maintain required technical documentation associated with work product

Qualifications

Required

Bachelors degree in relevant field and at least 5 years relevant experience OR Masters degree in relevant field and at least 4 years experience.

Understanding of data structures and principles of optimal algorithm design

Experience working with foundational language models and LLM frameworks

Deep understanding of structured outputs, output validation and other agentic concepts

Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain working software in a production environment.

Demonstrated experience in Python. Experience with AWS is a strong plus.

Adherence to corporate standards regarding applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies, including code of conduct, safety, GxP compliance, data security, and the software development lifecycle.

Nice to have :

• Experience with AWS is a strong plus.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position.
