Associate Vice Chancellor For Civil Rights Programming and Services

Join the California State University (CSU) Chancellor's Office as Associate Vice Chancellor for Civil Rights Programming and Services and lead the next chapter of systemwide equity and accountability. This is a rare opportunity to shape civil rights compliance across 23 campuses, 460,000 students, and 65,000 employees. What You'll Be Doing

The California State University (CSU) Chancellor's Office invites applications for a strategic and visionary leader to serve as the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Civil Rights Programming and Services in Long Beach, California (2 days telecommuting, 3 days on-site). Located in Long Beach, CA, the CSU Chancellor's Office serves as the systemwide headquarters for 23 campuses. This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape the future of civil rights programming across 460,000 students, and over 65,000 employees.

The AVC for Civil Rights Programming and Services leads a centralized team responsible for Title IX, Discrimination, Harassment & Retaliation (DHR), whistleblower response, and related compliance systems. As a key figure in systemwide leadership, you will partner with the Chancellor, Board of Trustees (BoT), university presidents, and external agencies to ensure alignment, accountability, and inclusive excellence throughout the CSU system.

You'll Make a Difference By :

  • Leading a highly experienced and fully staffed team, including five senior systemwide directors with subject-matter expertise
  • Guiding the next chapter of a well-established structure built under a highly respected former AVC
  • Providing oversight and strategy for campus Title IX, DHR, and whistleblower offices
  • Partnering with the CSU Office of General Counsel and serving as the Chancellor's Office lead on civil rights-related compliance, policies, and crisis management
  • Representing CSU to federal and state agencies, the legislature, and media
  • We're Looking for a Leader With :

    Required :

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in civil rights compliance, including Title IX, equity, EEO, investigations, accommodations, training, and policy development
  • Hands-on Title IX experience within the last five years
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate effectively at the highest levels
  • Preferred :

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or doctoral degree
  • Background in higher education, regulatory, or judicial settings
  • Familiarity with California's civil rights laws
  • Salary Range : $240,000$294,000 annually, based on experience

    Mandated Reporter Per CANRA

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

    Conflict of Interest

    The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700 : Statement of Economic Interest when they first occupy the position, and on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.

    CSU Out of State Employment Policy

    California State University, Office of the Chancellor, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer. As such, the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California. As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.
