Baker Engineering, LLC's (Baker) core business centers around the design and development of high-tech, high-performance technologies for a variety of applications, from custom military and commercial engines, to engine components, to the production of parts and mechanical assemblies for other industries. Baker is a division of Waséyabek Development Company, LLC that is wholly owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, a Federally recognized Indian Tribe.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Engineer serves as a member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team and will own the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance through audits, corrective actions, and non-conformance management. Lead the quality team while fostering a culture of collaboration and service excellence. Manage supplier approvals, technical specifications, and key quality processes, including PFMEA, control plans, and inspections. Conduct dimensional analysis, gage calibrations, and measurement system studies. Support internal and external audits, maintain records, and oversee final product certification and reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establish and maintain the structure and compliance of the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Conduct internal and external QMS audits, ensuring compliance and maintaining audit records.
- Manage customer complaint notifications and maintain comprehensive records.
- Oversee corrective action processes, track status, and provide detailed reporting.
- Control non-conforming products, monitor status, and generate reports.
- Ensure the effectiveness and accessibility of control plans.
- Work within the manufacturing team, cultivating a collaborative organizational culture focused on teamwork, service excellence, and support for a diverse workforce and customer base.
- Manage external provider approvals and performance evaluations, maintain records, and report status.
- Interpret engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), specifications, and technical standards.
- Develop and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
- Procure, log, and certify variable and attribute measurement devices used internally.
- Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies.
- Determine fixture requirements and create Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs for shared use.
- Develop and maintain control plans and inspection instructions.
- Participate in contract reviews, perform material verification and certification, conduct final quality inspections prior to product release, and generate certificates of completion.
- Perform dimensional inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Review and approve external provider certifications for materials and special processes.
- Conduct gage calibrations and maintain records of gage status.
- Perform internal process audits and support external audit activities, including CMM audits upon receipt of Traveler.
- Develop and maintain work instructions relevant to job functions.
- Generate and manage reports and records related to inspections, evaluations, analyses, and submissions.
- Submit certifications and preproduction reports such as Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIR), First Article Inspections (FAI), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation to customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.Minimum of five years of experience in quality systems management.Proficiency in AS9100 or ISO 9001 standards.Experience conducting internal and external audits.Proven experience in leadership and team management.Proficient in using precision measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, hardness testers, surface testers, and indicators.Certified in Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programming and operation or a minimum of three years of experience in CMM operation.Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to work independently and efficiently while managing multiple tasks.Strong adaptability, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills in dynamic work environments.Flexibility to adjust schedules based on evolving priorities and team needs.Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Demonstrated dependability and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.United States citizenship required per contractual obligations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
