Job Summary

The Endoscopy Technician supports and assists the GI physician under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The technician assists the practitioner in endoscopic procedures, from simple endoscopy to more advanced therapeutic interventional procedures. Responsibilities include cleaning scopes, maintaining equipment, storage, handling, transport of equipment, ordering supplies, procedure room turnover with appropriate infection prevention practices, and ensuring inventory levels are maintained. The incumbent should have technical skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and scope management, plus a basic knowledge of GI anatomy and medical terminology. They may perform clinic duties as a MA Registered when not assisting during procedures.

Job Specific Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist physician with procedures : prepares room and patient, anticipates needs, maintains scopes, positions patients as directed; explain procedures to patients and provide instructions to ensure cooperation and minimize discomfort; provide emotional and physical support to patients; take and record vital signs; assist with admission / discharge; collect, prepare and label specimens; complete required documentation; make post-procedure phone calls as directed by RN; follow infection control procedures; ensure patient safety and adherence to policies; maintain equipment and supply levels; attend educational programs and participate in performance improvement activities.
