Occupational Summary
The Financial Aid Advisor performs a variety of tasks in the processing of student aid applications. This position advises students of opportunities; reviews, researches and resolves discrepancies and utilizes various programs and software to process applications and files. This position works closely with the Foundation and Financial Services to perform scholarship maintenance activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
- Provides information to students regarding financial aid programs, eligibility requirements and application processes; interprets and explains the College's financial aid policies and procedures to students, parents and the general public
- Sends correspondence to students regarding incomplete or missing information in their files
- Processes student aid applications electronically; verifies, submits corrections and packages financial aid awards
- Completes verifications, resolves comment-codes, obtains documents and makes necessary corrections is ISIRs in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Oversees the import proves of ISIRs ensuring accuracy and proper budget / COA calculation, assigns student files to financial aid advisor for awarding
- Signs off on student withdrawal forms and advises students of the impact on financial aid
- Ensures compliance with all Title IV regulations regarding aid eligibility
- Assists with coordination of the Federal Work Study Program; maintains applications and assists students with HR paperwork; meets with supervisor of the position to describe program expectations
- Develops and maintains spreadsheets to track hours used / worked and payments to work study students
- Assists with coordination of Workforce Pell; processes applications and awards paid amounts in Colleague according to regulations
- Awards paid amounts in the Colleague system and ensures work study students are meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Administers scholarship programs including the selection and awarding of assigned scholarships
- Maintains and tracks appeals of Satisfactory Academic Progress for the SAP Committee
- Administers the Childcare Program including receiving applications and awarding funds
- Maintains the Childcare Program budget within regulations and compliance
- Reviews reports to ensure student compliance with course curricular requirements related to financial aid
- Assists with Financial Aid presentations in the community and on campus
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree in business administration, accounting or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Two (2) years' full-time administrative work experience in a professional environment.
Preferred :
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Community college experience in student financial aid programs.
