Position Overview :
The Mechanical & Steel Procurement Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the Mechanical and Structural Steel divisions by managing the sourcing, purchasing, and coordination of materials, tools, and equipment. This position ensures timely procurement, accurate material verification, efficient inventory management, and logistical support to keep field and shop operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities :
Procurement & Quoting Support
Retrieve material pricing for Project Managers during the job bid process.
Verify all details concerning materials being quoted to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
Compare and confirm quotes against requested materials.
Shop and negotiate quoted materials through multiple sources to achieve cost savings and delivery efficiency.
Place and manage purchase orders for approved materials and equipment.
Material Management & Logistics
Receive, inspect, and stage incoming materials for project use.
Store and kit ordered materials for Project Managers and field crews.
Load and unload delivery trucks as needed.
Run errands, make in-town deliveries, and coordinate material transport as required.
Transport company vehicles for outside repairs or maintenance.
Sourcing & Inventory Control
Source materials such as bearings, motors, pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, gauges, plastics, paints, primers, coatings, conveyor belting, and other specialized items.
Maintain inventory of shop consumables including welding supplies, abrasives, PPE, batteries, tooling, and hand tools.
Manage and update tool and equipment inventory using Asset Panda , including :
Assigning tools to foremen.
Scheduling tool repairs and calibrations.
Maintaining trailer tool inventories.
Fleet & Equipment Coordination
Assist in fleet maintenance scheduling for company trucks and rental equipment.
Perform truck and trailer audits to ensure compliance and readiness.
Order parts and supplies for the in-house mechanic.
Schedule outsourced repairs for forklifts and rental equipment.
Safety & Employee Support
Assign PPE to new field employees during onboarding.
Support safety initiatives by ensuring proper stocking and distribution of equipment and consumables.
Qualifications :
Prior experience in procurement , purchasing , or logistics coordination (preferably within a mechanical, steel, or industrial construction environment).
Strong understanding of industrial materials and tools.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with inventory management software (Asset Panda experience preferred).
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate forklifts or similar equipment (certification preferred).
