This posting describes the position of a master's level mental health clinician (licensed or license eligible) who will provide cross-coverage for the Primary Counselor team across adult and adolescent campuses.
Description
Skyland Trail is seeking a master's level mental health clinician (licensed or license eligible) to work alongside the Primary Counselor team to provide cross-coverage for individual client caseloads and groups. This clinician will collaborate with the Primary Counselor team to support clients from recovery communities including CBT, DBT, Dual Diagnosis, and Cognition & First Episode of Psychosis and Social Integration.
Scope
To ensure that each client within the assigned caseload is sufficiently supported by Skyland Trail program services, offering coverage support for the Primary Counselor team. This role will provide coverage for individual caseload and group counselor responsibilities as needed on both the adult and adolescent campuses. The clinician will be responsible for well-planned and coordinated therapeutic coverage of treatment services in collaboration with Primary Counselors.
Duties
- Coordinate with the Primary Counselor or supervisor to ensure all aspects of coverage are well organized and executed. Coverage may be planned (vacations or planned absences) or unplanned (emergencies or unforeseen circumstances).
- Provide individual sessions, group coverage, family contact, treatment team meetings, documentation, and other duties as assigned, within the scope of the full-time Primary Counselor as needed.
- Ensure all admission documents are complete and gather information from referring facilities. Complete assessments (psychosocial, activity therapy, ADL, nutrition, employment / education, admissions, self-assessments, etc.) to support timely recovery plans.
- Develop individualized recovery plans (including day treatment schedules) and revise with input from the recovery team. Conduct at least one individual session per week with assigned caseload and monitor progress toward goals.
- Participate in recovery team meetings, present cases professionally, and communicate recovery goals, wellness plans, expectations, and opportunities for clients.
- Conduct assigned groups, document in the electronic health record, and develop written group curricula as needed. Facilitate or co-facilitate groups and rotate through core groups to relieve group leaders.
- Provide planned coverage for documentation needs and for Independence Coaching sessions at Transitional Housing as required.
- Provide skills coaching with clients when appropriate and in coordination with other staff.
- Conduct initial risk screening for clients in crisis and collaborate with Crisis Clinician, Assistant Directors, or Directors for additional assessment.
- Attend weekly meetings for case consultation and / or administrative purposes, and participate in other team meetings as assigned.
- Collaborate with the recovery team to design wellness plans, set caseload wellness goals, and communicate plans to clients, families, and clinical staff.
- Complete all documentation per agency guidelines, including progress reports and concurrent reviews for UR staff; maintain contact with insurance companies as required by managed care standards.
- Maintain family contact as needed (at least every two weeks) when covering a caseload, via verbal or written updates.
- Participate in quarterly orientation / training on the adolescent campus to stay current with policies and procedures across campuses.
- Collaborate on special projects such as curriculum development, chart audits, or administrative tasks as needed.
- Practice ethically and comply with facility policies and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HFRD).
- Guide clients toward maximum independence in the least restrictive environment and refer clients to appropriate internal and external services as needed.
- Potentially supervise master's level interns weekly and maintain regular contact with school advisors.
- Provide transportation for clients as needed and participate in continuing education in the specialty area.
- Participate in on-call rotation and perform other duties as assigned.

Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Counseling) requiredEligible for licensure (provisional or full) requiredPrior experience with clients diagnosed with psychiatric illness and co-occurring substance use disorders preferredPrior experience in residential and / or partial hospitalization / day treatment settings for individuals with psychiatric illness requiredDBT experience preferredSalary & Benefits
