Job description

Peer Support Coordinator

  • This position is to cover a Leave of Absence

The Peer Support Coordinator is part of the core programming of Lakes Region Mental Health Center and a trusted member of our management team. Tasked with the coordination of the ongoing peer support services for the agency.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Provide clinical support and leadership as it relates to peer support services.
  • Facilitates monthly meeting for Team Leads, providing guidance for best practice of peer support supervision.
  • Provide supervision for CSP and ACT peers when team leads are off or unavailable.
  • Provide individual weekly supervision for Peer supports within Mobile Crisis and Place to Go.
  • Assures quality and timely documentation on records / paperwork for Peer supports within Acute Services.
  • Approve timesheets and time off requests for all assigned supports.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, establish and support training needs of peers throughout the agency.
  • Create the monthly Place to go Schedule and support the Acute Service Director and / or Assistant Director with the Mobile Crisis peer support schedule.
  • Oversee daily operations of Place to Go including include ensuring supplies are stocked, oversight of staff and daily operations of the program.
  • Facilitate monthly peer support meetings for all peer support staff in the agency.
  • In collaboration with team leads, coordinators and / or directors, interview peer supports throughout the agency.
  • In collaboration with LRMHC Human Resources, ensure all peer supports throughout the agency obtain and maintain proper certification mandated by the State.
  • Attend all required local and state meetings as they relate to peer support services.
  • Participate in developing and revising policies and procedures related to Mobile Crisis, Place to go and anything peer support related.
  • Engage in required direct service hours.
  • Support the Acute Service Director and / or Assistant Director with as needed programmatic tasks.
  • Required Skills / Abilities :

    The individual must possess the knowledge, skills and ability noted below or be able to explain and demonstrate how the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.

  • Must be able to establish a rapport with the patients. Must treat all patients with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Lived knowledge of serious mental health diagnosis, symptoms and treatments.
  • Partnership building within a team atmosphere.
  • Servant leader that applies practice to procedure.
  • Ability to follow through with responsibilities to the satisfaction of supervisor.
  • Represents the patients / program / agency constructively both within and outside the agency, serving on agency and community committees as appropriate.
  • Ability to use computers and word processing equipment.
  • Attendance per assigned schedule is essential.
  • Education and Experience : Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Human Services (preferred) with three to five years of experience working in the Human Services field. Must be a certified Peer Support Specialist in good standing. A minimum of two years of direct supervisory skills and oversight or assistance in direct oversight of a program, preferably in a multi-location organization.

    Physical Requirements :

  • Is able to sustain light physical effort such as frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or reaching and / or occasional lifting of items 20 lbs. or more.
  • Is able to tolerate periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
  • Environment may be chaotic and / or emergent; ability to stay focused and calm in these situations.
  • This position may require an individual to use physical interventions to ensure the safety on oneself or others.
