Purpose

The Research Engineering / Scientist Associate IV will work on advancing the development of accurate greenhouse gas emissions estimates from oil and gas supply chains.

Responsibilities

Data Analytics and Modeling : Develop and perform emission modeling of oil and gas production and supply chains, with wide latitude for independent action and decision; perform geospatial and statistical analyses to address science and policy questions; choose from a range of projects including multi-scale field measurement campaigns, advanced data analytics, model development, and geospatial analysis.

Project Management : Propose, plan, schedule, coordinate, complete and report the detailed phases of parts of ongoing projects in the group; devises new approaches to problems encountered. Lead and manage projects involved multiple universities and outside organizations to ensure deadlines and deliverables are completed on schedule. Coordinate field campaigns as necessary.

Communication : Prepare scientific papers and reports; present scientific results to collaborators and sponsors, and at major conferences. Communicate results to non-technical audiences in industry, government, and the public.

Mentorship : Mentor graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and other personnel on projects by organizing regular internal team meetings and tracking progress throughout the duration of the project.

Required Qualifications

A recent PhD in Chemical, Environmental, Petroleum, or other related engineering disciplines with two years of relevant experience or Master's degree in Chemical, Environmental, Petroleum, or other related engineering disciplines with four years of relevant experience.

Knowledge about oil and gas industry infrastructure, operations, emissions modeling, and / or greenhouse gas emissions accounting.

Proficiency in quantitative analyses and geospatial analyses.

The ability to communicate research in writing and orally to broad audiences.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in life-cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic modeling (TEA)

Experience in modeling greenhouse gas emissions from upstream oil and gas production and downstream supply chains

Demonstrated experience in statistical modeling, data analysis, and scientific programming languages (Python, Matlab, or R)

Familiar with geographical information systems like ArcGIS

Familiar with public database associated with oil and gas production, including EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP), Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks (GHGI), and Texas Railroad Commission (Texas RRC)

Salary Range

80,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office environment.
