Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs all job functions under the direction of a licensed professional nurse. The CNA supports professional nursing staff by preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for procedures. Obtains and records accurate patient information. Administers treatment and personal care procedures to patients including, but not limited to, feeding, bathing, shaving, changing, cleaning, bed-making, and other duties as assigned.

The Certified Nursing Assistant contributes to the education of patients and their families by reinforcing teaching instructed by professional staff or physicians as requested. Assists with physical examinations, take and record vital signs, notes and report any changes in the patient's condition.

The Certified Nursing Assistant acts within the standards of behavior of Appalachian Regional Healthcare System and the scope of practice of a Nursing Assistant certified in the State of North Carolina. The Certified Nursing Assistant's behavior aligns with the strategic vision, mission, and values of the organization. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges starting at $16.85 per hour. This position is non-exempt and benefits eligible after a 60-day waiting period.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Education

High School Diploma is required at time of hire.

Successful completion of an accrediated CNA Program licensed in the State of North Carolina.

Experience

Previous experience as a CNA is preferred, but not required.

Required Registration / License / Certification

Certified as a Certified Nurse Assistant in the State of North Carolina.

Basic Life Support (BLS) issued from the American Heart Association is required at time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of scope of a CNA and experience in the field.

Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physicians; acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills.

Ability to resolve conflict and maintain integrity in occasional high-stress situations in a ever-changing environment.

Knowledge of the continuum of care.

Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians.

Computer skills including data entry and the EMR.

Physical Demands

Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls, and / or transfers up to and greater than 50 pounds

Manual dexterity and mobility

Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting / standing / walking

Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning

Near acuity : ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less

Working Conditions

Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases

Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical / mechanical / power equipment, odorous chemicals, and specimens and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.

Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies
