Job description
Thanks for your interest in Children's Mercy!

Do you envision finding a meaningful role with an inclusive and compassionate team? At Children's Mercy, we believe in making a difference in the lives of all children and shining a light of hope to the patients and families we serve. Our employees make the difference, which is why we have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top pediatric hospital, for eleven consecutive years.

Children's Mercy is in the heart of Kansas City - a metro abounding in cultural experiences, vibrant communities and thriving businesses. This is where our patients and families live, work and play. This is a community that has embraced our hospital and we strive to say thanks by giving back. As a leader in children's health, we engage in meaningful programs and partnerships throughout the region so that we can improve the lives of children beyond the walls of our hospital.

Overview

Children's Mercy Kansas City is recruiting a psychologist with expertise in autism, developmental disabilities and associated mental health conditions to join the Autism Clinic embedded within the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health. The primary focus of this position will be delivery of autism/developmental diagnostic evaluations, with the option to provide additional clinical services based on candidates' expertise and interests (e.g., delivery of evidence-based intervention). The positions also include opportunities to engage in a variety of other professional activities, including clinical training/education through the hospital's APA-accredited psychology internship, psychology and developmental-behavioral pediatrics fellowships, pediatric clerkship and residency programs, and psychology practicums.

Interested candidates will also be invited to contribute to community educational and outreach efforts, as well as research and program development activities focused on autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities. The positions carry academic appointments at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, with rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants for the autism psychologist position must have:
  • A PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology or a related field (e.g., school psychology)
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship with child/adolescent care as a major area of study
  • Relevant experience in the evidence-based diagnostic evaluation of autism/developmental disabilities in youth (e.g., ADOS, interdisciplinary diagnostic experience, telehealth assessment)
  • Eligibility for licensure in both Missouri and Kansas

Additional strengths in evidence-based intervention are desirable but not required (e.g., parent training, cognitive-behavioral therapy, executive functioning interventions, social/communication supports). The successful applicant must share our unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, collegiality, antiracism, and respect for inclusion of individuals with diverse backgrounds.

Candidates at all levels of experience will be considered. The positions include a competitive salary and benefits package. The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children's Mercy offers a collegial and supportive work environment with an excellent quality of life.

Please apply online with a cover letter and your CV or send to physicianjobs@cmh.edu. For more information, please contact:

The Children's Mercy Autism Clinic has received continuous funding through the Missouri Department of Mental Health since 2007 to support care access in the region. In addition to a thriving developmental diagnostic service line, the Autism Clinic provides robust evidence-based supports (e.g., RUBI, Project ImPACT) and community-focused education and navigation services. Children's Mercy is a member of the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Research Network and the National Inclusive Curriculum for Health Education developmental disabilities education initiative, with active research focused on autism/developmental disabilities extramurally funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Maternal Child Health Bureau. In 2022, the hospital's Board of Directors approved an historic 5-year Mental Health Strategic Plan focused on expanded access to care, including investment in acute care and medical home supports for youth with developmental disabilities.

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health includes over 50 psychologists, 7 developmental pediatricians, 10 child/adolescent psychiatrists, master's and doctoral level board certified behavior analysts, and other allied professionals who support the care of children and families impacted by mental/behavioral health issues (ADHD and disruptive behavior, developmental disabilities, internalizing disorders, PTSD, sleep problems, etc.) and/or pediatric illness (chronic pain, cancer, GI, etc.).
