Ophthalmic Technician

UPMC Optical Shop, located at 3606 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213, is seeking a dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM, with travel required approximately 25-50% of the time. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care while performing clinical and technical tasks to support our ophthalmology services. Responsibilities :

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
• Visual acuity assessment : with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
• Lensometry : automated and manual
• Pupillary assessment : measurement, compare and evaluate.
• Visual fields : Amsler grid & confrontation fields
• Ocular Motility : Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
• Refractometry : auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry : ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.
• Supplemental skills : Color testing, glare test
• Angle assessment & dilation of pupils.
• Contact lenses : insertion, removal, and instructions.
• Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
• Travel to other clinical sites.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and / or experience preferred.
• Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
• Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :
• Valid CPR certification
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
