Compensation

  • Salary Range : $90,000 – $100,000 annually (based on experience)
  • Job Summary

    The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating all daily activities within Surgical Services. This role oversees operating room operations, staff development, and patient care delivery while ensuring compliance with hospital policies and quality standards.

    The ideal candidate is an experienced nurse leader with a strong clinical background, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a critical access hospital environment.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management of the Surgical Services Department, including daily operations, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with medical staff leadership to develop and expand surgical services.
  • Implement strategic plans to enhance departmental growth and operational efficiency.
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and participate on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Oversee development and review of departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Partner with Human Resources for recruitment, hiring, coaching, and staff evaluations.
  • Coordinate cross-training and orientation to ensure a flexible and competent workforce.
  • Monitor and improve quality of surgical care and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Foster collaboration with other hospital departments for coordinated patient services.
  • Participate in community outreach and support surgical provider recruitment efforts.
  • Requirements

  • Active Michigan RN License – Required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required
  • ACLS & BLS Certifications – Required (ACLS may be obtained within 3 months of hire)
  • Experience : 3–5 years in a surgical leadership role – Required
  • Critical Access Hospital experience – Highly preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attendance record, flexibility, and positive attitude
