Job description

JOB SUMMARY :

The Shipping Supervisor will plan, schedule, coordinate and implement methods and procedures in a safe and cost-effect way to achieve performance targets. The Shipping Supervisor's responsibilities also includes supervising the work of hourly associates assigned on shift, creating and maintaining positive employee relations, ensuring a safe work environment while meeting company quality standards. The Shipping Supervisor will adhere to and support the organization's Vision, Mission and Values.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Lead, guide and direct dock employees as needed to include setting targets, monitoring performance, providing coaching, counseling and development.
  • Identifies performance or conduct issues, resolving the issue internally with the Employee Corrective Action process for internal resolution.
  • Approving employee's payroll time using the designated software.
  • Management of an efficient, clean and safe LTL operation to include dock planning and set up schedules.
  • Responsible for equipment assignment and movement (trailers) in collaboration with other supervisors / management.
  • Ensure the optimal inventory levels of full goods are maintained in order to fulfill daily sales needs.
  • Maintain the inventory system to aid in production scheduling.
  • Conduct cycle counts.
  • Track and record ingredient waste from the warehouse.
  • Communicate with other departments to assure all loads are ready to leave as scheduled and notify other departments if loads do not leave on time.
  • Supervise and coordinate dock operations and personnel to include load planning, timely departures and 100% freight accuracy.
  • Enforce Trailer Inspection completed on all inbound / outbound trailers.
  • Follow and ensure FIFO rotation.
  • Manage and adhere to 5S standards.
  • Supervise forklift operators to meet daily operation goals.
  • Operate a stand-up forklift in the loading / unloading of trailers as needed.
  • Supervise daily activities of materials to ensure safe and efficient storage and retrieval of supplies and satisfy internal and external customer's requirements.
  • Monitor suppliers and commercial carriers to ensure that delivery schedules are consistently met and any error rectified on a timely basis.
  • Identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement, ensures that continuous improvement activities are planned, implemented, measured, reported and reviewed in the respective area of responsibility.
  • Enforce all company, OSHA and DOT policies, rules, regulations and employment laws as required.
  • Ensures company standard practices and procedures are followed.
  • Participate in weekly GMP, sanitation, and safety inspections throughout the shipping department and corrects, or issues work orders to correct, any identified deficiencies. Follows up on work orders with the appropriate employees to ensure expeditious performance of the requested work.
  • Performs other related responsibilities, as needed to support Crown Bakeries' business objectives.

FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Follow all GMP's, Food Defense and quality policies
  • Properly load / unload all trailers to BRC standards.
  • Ensures all GMP and all food hygiene and safety standards are in compliance
  • Conducts audits of associates' Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), facility sanitation, preparation procedures, and quality documentation
  • Provide immediate and long-term corrective action in the event of non-compliance to food defense and quality
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS :

  • Bachelor Degree, 4-year college degree preferred not required.
  • 3 yrs Shipping Supervision experience in a manufacturing plant.
  • Food Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and have demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to interface with management, employees and business partners in a competent, and productive manner;
  • Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position, including repeated bending, stretching, twisting and lifting.
  • Ability to set and prioritize goals.
  • Worked in a continuous improvement environment preferred not required.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT :

    This job operates in a production office environment. The employee is frequently exposed to facility elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
