The Opportunity
Join MetLife's Global Technology team for a hands-on summer internship where you'll work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to real projects, and develop skills that prepare you for a full-time Junior Software Engineer role. Our program is designed for students who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies and processes in a collaborative, supportive environment. As a METx Global Technology Intern, you will have the chance to participate in onboarding, training, and mentorship sessions focused on engineering fundamentals, AI, and cloud technologies. At the end of the internship, you will have a chance to share your project outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders. Intern assignments are varied and align to business needs. Some examples include :
Delivering a full-stack software solution by designing, developing, and testing new features for enterprise applications
Owning Agile development tasks-writing user stories, participating in sprints, conducting peer code reviews, and resolving production issues
Creating and implementing UI / UX improvements for web platforms
Supporting a strategic or operational initiative by analyzing project data, preparing documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams
Engineering infrastructure solutions by working on projects involving hosting, networking, virtualization, or troubleshooting performance issues in a live environment
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
Must have an expected graduation date no later than June 2028.
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or post-secondary training in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Academic coursework or personal projects in programming, software development, or technology.
Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, COBOL, PowerShell).
Desire to learn new technologies, tools, and processes.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset.
It Would Be Helpful to Have (Preferred Qualifications)
Exposure to cloud platforms, AI / ML, or DevOps concepts through coursework, personal exploration, open-source contributions, or volunteer projects.
Experience with collaborative tools (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps) or agile methodologies.
An expected graduation date between December 2026 - June 2027.
For candidates interested in Global Technology Strategy and Operations, coursework in business or project management may be helpful.
Application Process & Program Information
Applications for this role will close December 15, 2025.
Qualified candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis - no interview activity will take place between December 22nd, 2025 and January 2nd, 2026.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require MetLife sponsorship or support for a work permit or visa in any capacity now or in the future.
Postgraduate students pursuing a master's degree (or higher) are not eligible.
The internship program follows a hybrid work model - candidates are expected to work in office at least three days per week.
Interns will start in person on June 1st, 2026 and will work approximately 40 hours / week over the course of ten weeks.
The primary location will be in Cary, NC with a limited number of roles available in other offices listed in the job description.
