Operations Planner-Mosquito Control

Under the supervision of the Mosquito Control Director and in coordination with Mosquito Control staff, plans, analyzes and supports mosquito control field operations by coordinating equipment and resources to facilitate the control of mosquitoes and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.  Manages and utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) databases and programs in support of mosquito control operations.  Develops and implements training to educate personnel in mosquito control application techniques and equipment operations.  Monitors program efficiency and analyzes treatment results offering summaries and recommendations to the Director and Field Supervisors.  Operates an unmanned aerial system (drone) for control of mosquitoes.

Bachelor’s Degree in biology or GIS / geography or related field, and one year of mosquito control or similar operational experience preferred.  Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.  Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Pesticide Applicator certification within one year of hire.  Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Trainer certification within one year of hire.

FAA part 107 drone certification and MDARD Aerial Applicator certification within one year of hire.  Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with County employees, contractors to the County, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, and the public. Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite and complex use of GIS / mapping software.

Current salary range starting at $27.72 / hr progressing to $36.13 / hr (7-year progression) with a competitive fringe benefit package.
