JOB DESCRIPTION

GROUNDS WORKER

Contract Period: Year-round position, 40 hours/week, non-exempt

Supervisors: Facilities Director

Qualifications: High School diploma, or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must hold a valid driver's license. Mechanical aptitude is required. Ability to work safely, independently, and perform heavy manual work in various weather conditions is essential. Some knowledge of horticulture and landscape maintenance is helpful.

DUTIES:

• Maintain and mow lawns and fields.
• Plant and maintain shrubs and flowers.
• Empty exterior trash barrels; pick up trash on grounds.
• Assist with snow removal.
• Provide general landscape maintenance.
• Maintain and operate equipment.
• Assist with set-up of various campus events.
• Must be available to work nights and weekends mainly due to weather-related issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Facilities Director.

HAZARDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires frequent heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs. Exposure to all weather conditions, including working in excessive heat and severe weather conditions. Work involves considerable bending, kneeling, lifting, walking, and raking to maintain lawns, landscaping, and fields. Operation of vehicles and equipment such as tractors, trimmers, push mowers, snow blowers, chain saws, leaf blowers, etc. involves accident hazards, vibrations, and noise. May require eye and ear protection. Heavy labor - at times for prolonged periods, to include constructing stone walls. Manual snow removal requires repetitive movements-heavy lifting, bending, and twisting for prolonged periods of time (3-4 hours) in cold and severe weather. Occasional use of fine motor skills for painting and planting. Painting may involve reaching and climbing ladders.
