Confidential – Director of Fleet Operations
We're seeking an experienced Fleet Director to lead the strategy, operations, and performance of a large, nationally distributed fleet organization supporting utility infrastructure and field operations across the U.S. The successful candidate will bring a balance of strategic vision and hands-on leadership to oversee a fleet exceeding 4,500 assets —including vehicles, trailers, specialty equipment, and support machinery—traveling more than 30 million miles annually
What You'll Do
- Lead the fleet department's strategic direction and long-term financial performance, aligning with corporate and operational goals.
- Oversee all aspects of fleet management including acquisition, lifecycle planning, preventative maintenance, compliance, and asset disposal.
- Direct a team of Fleet Managers and Regional Supervisors responsible for fleet safety, maintenance standards, and service delivery across multiple divisions.
- Build and manage relationships with OEMs, dealers, and vendors to secure favorable pricing, service agreements, and supply reliability.
- Develop and implement fleet safety programs and DOT compliance processes across a multi-state operation.
- Drive continuous improvement through data-driven decision making, cost analysis, and preventive maintenance optimization.
- Manage annual capital and operating budgets, ensuring accountability for spend, utilization, and asset performance.
- Champion innovation in telematics, GPS, and maintenance technology to enhance safety, efficiency, and visibility.
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.Minimum of 5 years' leadership experience managing large mobile fleets (1,000+ assets preferred).Strong financial acumen and experience developing and managing multi-million-dollar budgets.Deep knowledge of fleet maintenance, vehicle lifecycle management, DOT / Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations, and vendor negotiations.Proven ability to lead distributed teams and develop high-performing talent.Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GPS / telematics systems, and maintenance or ERP databases.Why This Role Matters
