JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled Malware Analyst to join our cybersecurity team supporting NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center. In this role, you will focus on the detection, reverse engineering, and analysis of malware to support incident response, counterintelligence, and law enforcement activities. You will leverage your expertise in static and dynamic analysis, digital forensics, and memory examination to uncover adversary techniques, identify indicators of compromise, and provide actionable intelligence to strengthen NASA's cyber defense posture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct static and dynamic malware analysis to determine functionality, capabilities, and potential impact.
  • Reverse engineer malware samples to extract IOCs, signatures, and behavioral patterns.
  • Perform memory forensics and host-based artifact analysis to uncover attacker activity.
  • Analyze intrusion vectors, privilege escalation, lateral movement, malware deployment, and exfiltration techniques.
  • Investigate anomalous network activity and correlate findings with host and application data.
  • Develop and maintain malware analysis SOPs, toolkits, and lab environments.
  • Provide in-depth technical reports, briefings, and recommendations to leadership, law enforcement, and SOC / IR teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve detection rules, threat hunting, and cyber defense capabilities.
  • Stay current on emerging malware families, exploit techniques, and APT tradecraft to proactively defend NASA systems.

    • Ability to travel, on short notice, to NASA facilities to support

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • U.S. Citizen with active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related technical field.
  • 7-9 years of experience in cybersecurity with at least 3 years in DFIR or malware analysis / reverse engineering.
  • Proficiency with malware analysis and forensic tools (e.g., Ghidra, IDA Pro, Volatility, FTK, AXIOM, X-Ways, Arsenal Recon).
  • Strong background in Windows, Linux, and Unix internals and file systems.
  • Skilled in analyzing logs, packet captures, and endpoint artifacts.
  • Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Shell for automation and analysis.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GREM, GCFA, GNFA, CFCE, EnCE).

    • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Advanced certifications such as GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM), CMA, or PMRP.
  • Experience with cloud-based forensics (AWS, Azure).
  • Expertise in Windows memory internals and advanced exploit analysis.
  • Experience developing custom tools for malware analysis or reverse engineering.

    • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Inside office environment.
  • Working on a computer for long periods of time.
  • May involve long period of sitting at a desk.
  • Work must be performed on-site at NASA Marshall Space and Flight Center.
  • The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures.
