Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Float Pool Night Shift assignment requiring at least two years of recent experience and strong telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital-based Med / Surg Float Pool covering all medical-surgical units
  • Patient population includes general med / surg cases with no cardiac telemetry patients
  • Target patient ratios are typically 1 : 6, with a maximum of 1 : 7 during higher census
  • 12-hour night shifts from 18 : 45 to 07 : 15, with a 36-hour work week
  • Every other weekend shifts are required
  • Float within all medical / surgical floors and may float to affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs
  • Uses EPIC for charting and Pyxis for medication management
  • Orientation consists of 24 hours prior to start
  • Navy and / or white scrubs required
  • Must be willing and able to float to any med / surg floor or affiliate hospital as needed
  • RTO (requested time off) not permitted after booking; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved prior to assignment with specific restrictions
  • Participation in Storm Team or Hurricane Team may be required in emergency situations
  • Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no RTO permitted during orientation week
  • Not eligible for consideration if previously employed (PERM / PRN / EP) at facility within last 12 months without rehire approval
  • Current travel per diem clinicians at this health system are ineligible for travel assignments
  • Travel pairs allowed only if assigned to different units
  • Fatigue policy prohibits working more than 5 consecutive days or exceeding 60 hours in a week
  • Completion of online and in-person modules required before start and annually
  • Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required prior to start
  • Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience in a hospital med / surg environment
  • Prior travel experience required; will not accept first-time travelers
  • Must possess BCLS certification
  • IV start and telemetry monitoring skills required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Preferred certifications : ACLS and NIHSS
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • References from supervisors within the past 12 months required at time of start
