Sales Engineer – Nuclear Manufacturing Location : Chattanooga, TN | Experience Preferred : 10+ Years System One is looking for an experienced Sales Engineer for a direct hire opportunity for our client in Chattanooga, TN. In this role, you will serve as a critical technical and commercial interface between customers, estimating team, engineers, and production staff. This role is responsible for reviewing nuclear-grade RFQs, developing internal costing strategies, supporting manufacturing planning, and writing technically strong proposal documentation. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Sales and plays a key role in the company’s nuclear-sector growth strategy. Key Responsibilities Customer & Quotation Support Review RFQs, drawings, customer specifications, QA requirements, and nuclear project documentation. Partner with estimators to develop cost models, labor calculations, material assumptions, and schedule inputs. Prepare comprehensive technical proposals, narrative responses, and bid package documentation. Identify risks, gaps, and uncertainties within customer specifications and recommend mitigation strategies. Support bid review, pricing strategy, and customer clarification efforts throughout the quotation cycle. Engineering & Manufacturing Coordination Work directly with engineering, machining, welding, quality, and manufacturing planning teams to develop internal manufacturing strategies. Translate customer requirements into internal process steps, technical instructions, and production planning inputs. Participate in manufacturability reviews, engineering change reviews, and strategic project planning sessions. Support evaluation of reverse-engineering opportunities, commercial-grade dedication needs, and equipment qualification pathways. Project & Technical Support Review and assess large nuclear project packages including ASME code components, structural modules, precision-machined assemblies, and DOE / DOD hardware. Maintain detailed understanding of nuclear compliance standards such as NQA-1, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and related requirements. Contribute to early-stage pursuit strategies including risk analysis, technical solutioning, and cost-drivers identification. Communication & Relationship Management Provide technical support in customer meetings with utilities, EPCs, national labs, and government contractors. Present company’s capabilities in machining, fabrication, engineering, and nuclear-grade quality programs. Build long-term customer relationships within the nuclear, DOE / DOD, and clean-energy manufacturing ecosystem. Provide feedback to improve the quotation process, lessons learned, and customer experience. Qualifications 10+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, sales engineering, quoting, or technical project management. Strong preference for experience in nuclear manufacturing or nuclear supply chain environments. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred (other engineering disciplines or equivalent experience considered). Strong technical writing ability and experience drafting proposals, narratives, and technical correspondence. Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, specifications, and nuclear QA documentation. Knowledge of nuclear compliance frameworks (NQA-1, Appendix B, ASME, AWS). Exceptional communication, organization, and analytical skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple concurrent quotations.
