Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine (UCCOM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Family & Community Medicine has played a leading role in fellow, resident, and medical student education since 1974 and continues to focus on improving the health of members of our Cincinnati community and beyond, with a special focus on medically underserved patients. With faculty expertise in areas such as primary care research, palliative care, geriatrics, global health and integrative medicine, the department is advancing the college's commitment to cultivating learning environments, fostering research and scholarship, and providing innovative patient care.

The Developmental Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Cincinnati trains physicians with expertise in the care of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With specialized experience in clinical care, advocacy, and research, fellowship graduates will be poised to be future leaders in developmental medicine in academic and / or community settings. Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow will receive certification from the American Board of Developmental Medicine.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting a fellow for the Developmental Medicine Fellowship who will have responsibilities in providing care in continuity clinic at the Timothy Freeman, MD Center for IDD, rotate with additional clinic specialties, and participate in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Fellows report to the Program Director of the Developmental Fellowship and will be additionally supervised by additional fellowship faculty in multiple disciplines.

Essential Functions

Clinical care :

Provide primary care and psychiatric care if applicable to adults with IDD at the Timothy Freeman, MD, Center for IDD at UC Health at least 6 half days per week.

Rotate with interdisciplinary team members, including but not limited to psychiatry, PM&R, behavior supports, nutrition, and mental health counseling.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical sites.

Attend interdisciplinary team meetings monthly at the clinic site.

Teaching :

Teach and supervise rotating 4th year medical students as a part of the Primary Care for Adults with IDD elective at UCCOM.

Help develop and teach the IDD longitudinal curricular thread currently being taught at UCCOM.

Scholarship :

Participate in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, including the evidence-based medicine project.

One half day per week will be protected for research based on fellow’s interest.

Expected to present a small research project or QI project and present at a national meeting such as AADMD, AACPDM, or AUCD.

Minimum Requirements Medical Degree (MD / DO).

Board certification or board eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or double-boarded in Internal Medicine / Pediatrics or Family Medicine / Psychiatry.

Must have an unrestricted Ohio Medical License and DEA license.

Additional Qualifications Considered Skills to provide the required clinical care including outpatient medicine for all ages.

Demonstrate a commitment to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
