Medical Assistant
This position provides medical assistant support to Public Health's clinical services including sexual reproductive health clinic, mobile medical unit, and School-Based Health Center operations, activities, and programs. Services may include patient care, data collection, and analysis and perform daily tasks and functions under the direction of the medical provider and / or clinic supervisor. Work assignments are broad and complex in nature. The position requires the ability to work independently and under the direction of a Public Health Medical Provider to identify courses of action that are within the framework of the Department's policies and procedures and within the scope of the MA certification. Work involves coordination with employees, patients, and other external partners.
Duties / Examples of Work Performed :
Knowledge of Specimen collection procedures. Public Health clinical services. Infection control requirements Vaccine administration. The AFSCME collective bargaining agreement as it relates to seniority, leave accrual, and other benefits. Skilled In Verbal and written communications (i.e. presentations, reports, deliverable documentation, infographics, etc.). The use of Microsoft Office Suite for electronic communications and scheduling, creating professional documents, spreadsheets and charts using formulas, references, linking, and other advanced functions. The use of Electronic Health Records. The strong interpersonal skills necessary to nurture lasting relationships with patients and community partners. Ability to Manage multiple priorities and prioritize tasks in order to ensure timeliness, quality and quantity of work. Complete tasks that are discreet pieces of larger processes with quality and accuracy and collaborate with other team members to ensure cohesiveness of work process and quality products. Understand individual elements of processes, and how they work together to form ore complex processes. Maintain confidentiality when dealing with clients and personnel matters. Use computer applications relevant to the functions of the position proficiently. Receive, process, and provide complex visual, verbal, and written information. The ability to present complex ideas in understandable and approachable ways that result in high quality effective communication with all audiences. Work effectively with diverse individuals and community organizations. Possess commitment to and demonstrate expertise in understanding root causes of health inequalities; advocate for equity related to age, disability, religious culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, social class, indigenous background, national origin and gender. Work effectively in a team environment as well as independently; coordinate work with other employees, supervisors, and managers as appropriate. Maintain a respectful demeanor, interact effectively with others, and recognize and attend to self-care when job stress, heavy workload and stressful situations occur.
