JOB SUMMARY :
The Operating Room RN provides safe nursing care in a timely manner to patients on the assigned unit with a high degree of independence. Performs within the scope of a RN as defined by the Vermont State Board of Nursing, functions regularly as charge nurse.
PRE-REQUISITES :
Education : Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or enrolled in an accredited Direct Entry to Master of Science in Nursing Program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Vermont (VT RN license or Compact State RN)
Experience : Successful completion of Surgical Services orientation
Certifications Required : BSL required; ACLS, PALS, CNOR recommended
RELATIONSHIPS :
Reports To : Director Surgical Services
Other Contacts : Charge nurse, providers and their staff, shift administrator, patients and their families / visitors, hospital staff, public, and other health care / community agencies

Machinery or Equipment Used : All office and patient care equipment
Physical Demands : Lifts, positions and / or transfers patients; pushes, moves and lifts heavy equipment / supplies; considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching; prolonged extensive or considerable standing / walking; manual dexterity in using office equipment
Working Conditions : Exposure to crisis or stressful situations, infectious diseases / blood borne pathogens, Possible stress from emergency situation and multiple interruptions; subject to irregular hours and unpredictable work situations
