About The Position
Job Title : Emergency Room Nurse

License : Current RN license in Maine or compact state
Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS
Must-Have : Minimum of 2 years recent ED experience, immunizations required
Description :
RN license is required.
Certifications needed include BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
A minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department experience is necessary.
Immunizations are required : varicella (2 doses or titer), HepB (3 doses or titer or declination), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, PPD (2 step or titer within past 12 months).
Flu shot is required during flu season.
Traveler will report for the onboarding process on day 1.
A current Maine nursing license is required.
A BSN is preferred.
The position requires critical thinking skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge base must include nursing assessment and skills for all age groups.
BLS certification is required, and ACLS certification is preferred.
The work environment requires standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, reaching, balancing, lifting, and pushing patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.
Lifting up to 30 lbs is necessary.
Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients is required.
Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic cleaning chemicals, and fumes is possible.
Responsibilities include performing initial age-appropriate nursing assessments.
Complete ongoing age-appropriate reassessments.
Conduct discharge assessments to identify patient discharge needs.
Identify priorities for the delivery of nursing care.
Develop and implement plans of care based on patient needs and physician orders.
Execute appropriate nursing actions to reach patient goals.
Communicate patient care activities to health care team members.
Update health care team members on current status and any changes in the plan.
Document patient care activities in accordance with established standards and hospital policies and procedures.
Initiate specialty or supplemental nursing notes as appropriate.
Assist with patient charges.
Deliver patient care in accordance with established policies and within the scope of the state Nursing Practice Act.
Maintain a physical environment that ensures patient and staff safety and wellness.
Ensure that supplies and equipment are readily available and in safe working order.
Report situations involving questionable safety or legality promptly to a nursing manager.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to implement procedures in the event of internal or external disasters.
Demonstrate knowledge of drug administration and effects.
Utilize appropriate drug reference sources for drug information.
Administer drugs correctly utilizing the five rights through medication verification.
Evaluate patient response to medications.
Assess the need for patient or family education and provide teaching as indicated.
Complete discharge plans and ensure patient or family understanding of the plan.
Perform follow-up calls to patients.
Assess nursing care throughout the shift.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding with hospitalists and case managers.
Promote the organization through professional behavior.
Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and projects.
Support and implement department-specific quality improvement initiatives.
Recommend process improvements as appropriate.
Report any quality issues in service delivery.
Consistently commit to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.
Participate in emergency and disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested.
When called upon during real-life disaster or emergency events, participate in the response within the scope of professional and personal ability.
