• Position Summary :
• The Karrmann Library at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville is seeking applications for a full-time
• Public Services Librarian
• to coordinate Reference and Digital Literacy Support and oversee Circulation services. This position will develop and maintain systems for supporting students, provide direct reference and digital literacy assistance, and supervise both professional and student staff in the Circulation department. The role also includes coordinating library events, collaborating with internal partners (including Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Textbook Center), and assisting with policy and process improvements to enhance library services. This is a full-time, and paid leave eligible position. Salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.##
• Key Job Responsibilities :
• Reference and Digital Literacy Support
• Develop and maintain systems and processes that provide reference and digital / AI literacy support to university students.
• Provide direct reference and digital / AI literacy assistance to students through consultations and online resources.
• Maintain an on-demand classroom presentation service for instructors who request Reference and Digital Literacy instruction.
• Continually update processes and services provided to students in the following areas : reference support (including classroom presentations requested by instructors) and AI / Digital Literacy.
• Resolve complex issues related to reference and digital / AI literacy support that may impact policies and procedures.
• Circulation and Karrmann Library Public Services Oversight
• Oversee day-to-day Circulation Desk functions including circulation of materials, stack maintenance and general upkeep of public spaces of the library .
• Train, supervise, and evaluate Circulation staff, including student employees, and collaborate with the Library Director and Circulation Manager on hiring, scheduling, and maintaining up-to-date procedures and training manuals.
• Establish service standards, update training materials, and ensure circulation staff are equipped to triage reference questions.
• Resolve complex service and staffing issues and make process improvements as needed.
• Public Services Events and Coordination
• Coordinate and promote library events, displays, and outreach activities (including New Student Experience and Admitted Student events).
• Maintain an events calendar, collaborate with external partners, and ensure events effectively highlight library services and collections.
• Resolve issues related to public services events and adjust processes and policies when necessary.
• Library and Division Support
• Represent the Karrmann Library on campus governance committees and working groups as requested.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the Division (Library, CETL, Textbook Center) on cross-functional projects.
• Develop working knowledge of other librarian functional areas to provide backup support when needed.
• Contribute to the advancement of library services at the campus level through committee participation and collaboration.
• Other Duties as Assigned
• Support the overall mission of Karrmann Library by performing additional responsibilities as needed.
• Required Qualifications :
• Masters of Library Sciences (MLS) - December 2025 graduates are welcome to apply.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
