Description :

The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.

Responsibilities include executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers.

Dispensing and administering medications are part of the role.

Assists Licensed Independent Providers during examinations and treatment of patients.

Applies nursing techniques required for the care and treatment of patients.

Performs all technical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.

Attends sick call with the physician to see patients.

Prepares a list of patients to be examined and prepares the examining room and equipment.

Operates pill call and dispenses medication while documenting as required.

Calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders as needed.

Examines and assesses new patients with illnesses or injuries.

Refers patients to the emergency room or other healthcare facilities as necessary.

Performs emergency procedures and notifies Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders.

Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.

Schedules patients for medical services as necessary.

Monitors patient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate.

Provides guidance and supervision to nursing staff as required.

Maintains effective working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, and external providers.

Utilizes established procedures and sound judgment in decision-making.

Evaluates provided medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.

Maintains the confidentiality of all medical records.

Assists in reviewing medical files to ensure services are documented.

Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.

Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed.

Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.

Observes and records patient behavior.

Inspects the medical unit for items that may be used as contraband and secures supplies.

Provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis.

Assists in preparing and maintaining operational records and reports.

Reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures.

Reviews and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings if necessary.

Evaluates and recommends physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.

Facilitates accreditation of the medical program by providing appropriate medical services.

Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required.

Takes appropriate action in serious incidents and emergencies.

Escorts or coordinates the movement of patients for medical treatment.

Performs searches of individuals and objects for contraband items.

Engages in functions in confined areas and checks security measures.

Takes action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.

Performs rescue functions during emergencies, including administering basic emergency medical aid.
