Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA) is a fully accredited private independent school and gold-certified U.S. Ski and Snowboard club. The school is uniquely situated at 6,900 feet on Donner Summit at Sugar Bowl Resort, with both day and boarding school programs for grades 6 through 12 as well as athletic programs for ages 5 through 20. Student-athletes are offered world-class athletics and college preparatory academics in one place. We celebrate grit, grace, and courage, and are seeking a new team member who does the same.
Overview of Position
A Head Coach is a member of the SBA Athletic staff and reports directly to the Director of Athletics. Working closely with fellow coaches and Sugar Bowl Resort staff, a Head Coach is their teams lead for fostering lifelong skiers / riders, training elite athletes, nurturing character development, and celebrating grit, grace, and courage. The ideal candidate is a caring, responsible, and mature person that is committed to the well-being and success of athletes both athletically and as members of the Sugar Bowl community.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and implement a seasonal coaching plan for long-term athlete development.
- Prepare and implement a daily coaching plan for that days training.
- Lead the provision of technical knowledge, skill development, and instruction to athletes, which many include the use of games, drills, verbal explanation, visual modelling, and physical execution.
- Lead the provision of individualized instruction while maintaining effective group management.
- Lead the provision of support and encouragement to enhance athlete personal development.
- Assess athletes progress and provide two technical evaluations for each athlete.
- Communicate regularly with athletes and their families to address concerns, provide updates, and support the overall development of athletes.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a supportive and welcoming community.
- Understand, apply, and maintain accountability for all safety policies and procedures.
- Stay updated on best practices for athlete development and implement them effectively.
Position Requirements
Experience as a coach or instructor is preferred.At least 5 years of experience working with ages 5 to 18 is preferred.S. Ski & Snowboard membership and completion of SafeSport training.Valid Drivers License and a reliable personal vehicle.Personal computer, tablet, or mobile device that can access SBA applications.Physical Requirements
Able to work in a high altitude, mountain environment with heavy storms disrupting operations.Able to drive personal vehicle in mountain environment, including in winter conditions.Able to sit, stand, walk, and ski or ride for extended periods of time.Able to look at a device screen for extended periods of time.Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
