Position Overview

The Assistant Center Director plays a key leadership role in managing the daily operations and administration of the center. This position ensures a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment while supporting financial stability and growth. The Assistant Director oversees staff management, regulatory compliance, curriculum implementation, family engagement, and community outreach—with a strong focus on financial oversight, budgeting, tuition management, and enrollment growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Administrative Oversight

  • Manage tuition collection, accounts receivable, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Monitor budgets and expenses to ensure the center operates within financial guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate reports on enrollment, attendance, and compliance documentation.
  • Support marketing and enrollment initiatives to sustain strong financial performance.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and daily center operations.
  • Ensure compliance with DCFS, state, and federal regulations as well as internal policies.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and resource management.
  • Utilize Brightwheel for parent communication, attendance, and recordkeeping.
  • Curriculum Staff Development

  • Support curriculum planning and ensure lesson plans meet developmental standards.
  • Mentor, train, and support teachers to deliver high-quality education and care.
  • Provide classroom coverage as needed during staffing shortages.
  • Family Community Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with families and address concerns proactively.
  • Plan and participate in family engagement events, including twice-yearly Broadway shows.
  • Foster community involvement and promote the center’s positive image.
  • Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current on early childhood best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations, financial health, and program quality.
  • Assist with the continued development of the Action for Children Program and Food Program
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (required).
  • DCFS Director Credential Level I or higher (required).
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a licensed childcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of DCFS regulations, curriculum planning, staff management, and child development practices.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, financial processes, and enrollment growth.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with digital tools (email, shared drives, school apps) and the ability to learn new platforms (e.g., Brightwheel).
