Senior Actuary - Excess & Surplus Pricing (Remote)

Position Overview

As a Senior Actuary , you will play a critical leadership role within the Excess & Surplus Pricing team in shaping and executing the strategy for a dynamic, growing area of the Property & Casualty (P&C) business. This position serves as a strategic resource to senior leadership, driving go‑to‑market pricing decisions and ensuring alignment with business objectives. In addition, it is an opportunity to lead a team of actuaries, and influence key decisions that impact profitability and growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of actuaries, fostering a high‑performance culture and ensuring successful execution of pricing strategies.
• Navigate challenges with incomplete or imperfect data, applying actuarial judgment to develop sound recommendations and influence organizational decisions.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on pricing initiatives and market positioning.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with underwriting, finance, and product teams to develop and implement effective pricing tactics.
• Drive innovation in pricing methodologies and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

Location & Work Authorization

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program. You’ll work independently and may lead others (directly and / or indirectly).

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education : Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis preferred.

License / Certification / Designation : Actuarial designation required, generally as an FCAS. PLEASE REFER TO THE NATIONWIDE PROPERTY AND CASUALTY ACTUARIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

Experience : Generally, eight or more years of actuarial experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills : Expert knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods of analysis, actuarial models, actuarial software and databases; expert knowledge of company operations, products, systems and actuarial methodologies; expert knowledge of company, industry, and regulatory practices. Mastery of Microsoft Office products, analytical software, and programming languages. Proficient level of organizational agility and conflict management. Proficient level of command skills, strategic agility, delegation, motivating others, business perspective and accounting. Mastery level of perspective, problem solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results, analysis, learning perspective, problem solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results, analysis, learning.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
