Position Information

The DUI Case Manager, as part of an interdisciplinary team, assesses DUI participants' needs, criminal case requirements, and treatment plans to connect participants to community resources with the objective of helping them out of the criminal justice system and into lives of recovery and stability.

This position is funded through external grant support. Continuation of the position, as well as its hours, is contingent upon the ongoing availability of grant funding or the identification of alternative funding sources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or an equivalent certification
  • Standard proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)

Required License or Certificate

None.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a similar field of study (social work, psychology, human development), and at least two years of experience as a case manager, social worker, or similar role in criminal justice, substance abuse treatment, mental health, or a similar setting. Spanish speaking candidates are preferred.

Conditions of Employment

Majority of work is completed in a general office environment with exposure to moderate levels of noise in a well-lit, well-ventilated and fast paced environment; continuously required to read computer screen. Work outside of normal work hours may be required, including evenings and weekends. Occasional travel is required, 5% or less; travel is regional in scope requiring travel by driving or flying.

Examples of Duties

The DUI Case Manager essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Complete risk and needs assessments with DUI defendants to determine treatment and supervision plans.
  • Engage in regular communication with treatment and other community providers to ensure participants are receiving appropriate care; Communicate recommendations regularly to the multidisciplinary court team.
  • Connect Multi-Track DUI Court participants to community resources with the goal of addressing participants' health care, substance abuse or mental health needs, housing, transportation, and other similar basic needs. Seek resources internally and externally to provide to participants for use in care plans.
  • Accurately identify participants' needs, barriers to care, and ability to seek resources independently.
  • Communicate regularly with the multidisciplinary team regarding participant progress; Recommend incentives, sanctions, and service adjustments in accordance with best practice standards for Specialty Courts.
  • Engage in community outreach and networking to cultivate prospective resources and seek opportunities to foster new relationships that will maximize resources for participants.
  • Engage participants in a holistic manner, with the ultimate goal of improving psychosocial stability, education, employment, housing and financial stability; Use motivational interviewing strategies with participants to motivate and engage them in treatment.
  • Receive referrals and assess potential participants for program suitability; facilitate program orientation and maintain frequent, regular contact with program participants.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of case requirements and participant progress using appropriate case management systems.
  • Attend weekly staffing meetings and court hearings to report on participants' progress and identify any needs or challenges they may have.
  • Assist in the development of monthly, quarterly, or annual reports as needed.
  • Create an environment of trust where participants can be honest and open; establish a rapport with participants to help them achieve maximum wellness.
  • Make genuine connections with individuals of diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for information regarding DUI Specialty Court policies, procedures, objectives, and operational functions; respond to inquiries in person and by phone, utilizing judgment, knowledge, and interpretation; refer questions and complaints to appropriate sources as necessary.
  • Receive, compile, and organize information to prepare documents, records, reports, and correspondence as assigned.
  • Prepare, process, and file judgments, orders, and similar court documents.
  • Maintain court dockets and permanent files including hearing / proceeding minutes.
  • Pull and review case files prior to hearings to verify that files are accurate and complete.
  • Perform case data entry and maintenance for statistical reporting purposes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
