Job Summary :

To provide highest quality health care services in a professional and competent manner, by using radionuclides for diagnostic purposes to produce images for interpretation by (or at the request of) a licensed practitioner.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

1. Performs Nuclear Medicine diagnostic procedures.

a. Schedules all Nuclear Medicine procedures for in and out patients.

b. Checks doctor's orders on all patients entering the department for tests ordered. Fills out individual dose sheet on each patient and prepares each patient's dose to be administered. Checks dose in syringe before administration. Inspects dose for each patient.

c. Operates Nuclear Medicine Equipment such as scintillation scanners, to trace and measure concentration of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing patient illness.

d. Prepares radioactive tracers for administration to patients, fills hypodermic syringe with amount and type of isotope or dilutes isotope for oral intake. Observe strict precautions in handling isotopes to safeguard against over exposure to radiation.

e. Explains nature of test procedures to patient to allay fears and anxieties and to obtain patient cooperation.

f. Assists patient in assuming required anatomical body position.

g. Positions and adjust equipment over area to be studied.

h. Respecting confidentiality and established policy, maintains adequate records of tests conducted, test results, the use and disposition of isotopes. Maintains other records as required including dosimeter records for staff.

i. Maintains clean, orderly, and contamination free conditions of rooms, equipment, and personnel.

j. Assumes an active role on the Radiation Safety Committee.

k. Coordinates scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all Nuclear Medicine equipment.

l. Maintains accurate records of maintenance performed.

m. Assumes the active role in assembling, recording, reporting, summarizing, the Quality Assurance and Improvement program.

n. Initiates basic life support action when necessary.

o. Pursues appropriate continuing education.

p. Complies with minimum standards as noted on the cover page of job description.

q. Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped with regard to the patient's age and diagnosis.

This position includes the requirement to participate in on-call duties in order to provide technical support during hours other than the regularly scheduled shifts. Hours and days of on-call coverage may vary according to changes in staffing situations and need. Current payroll policies and other hospital and departmental policies will be observed during the on-call and call-in hours.

Education and Experience Required :

1.Must be a high school graduate.

2. Graduate of at least a 1 year American Medical Association approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

3. Computer experience.

Mandatory Licensure / Certifications :

1. Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology ARRT (N) or Society of Nuclear Medicine as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist CNMT

2.Certified by the Indiana State Board of Health.
