Overview
Join to apply for the Photographer role at Family and Youth Initiative (DCFYI)
DCFYI helps older children (12 to 21) in foster care find adoptive families and develop lasting connections with caring adults. We focus on helping teens at risk of aging out of foster care to meet and get to know adults so that relationships can grow naturally before any formal mentor or adoption match is made. We create low barrier ways for adults to get to know and help teens, encouraging creative responses to the needs of individual teens and the availability of interested adults.
We document our weekend program events, capturing the activity itself and photos of program teens as they engage and interact with others. The ideal deliverable is mostly candid photos, though some teens may pose for added photos with friends.
Volunteer photographers should be available at least every other month and commit to six months or more to become familiar with our program and known to DCFYI teens and adults.
DCFYI holds monthly weekend events (lasting a few hours) to bring teens and adults together, with relationships that can lead to mentoring, host parenting, and adoption.
Events take place indoors and outdoors. Activities may include games, bowling, park days, cooking, sporting events, art projects, and scavenger hunts. Each spring we provide all DCFYI teens with individual photo albums containing photos from the previous year.
