Mechanical Engineer
Help service lines, substations, transformers, converters, regulators, circuit breakers, round connects, mechanical / electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and power generating facilities.
Installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing systems such as lighting protection systems.
Perform installation or repair of power transfer units which automatically control emergency generators when sensing low commercial line voltage, motor / engine malfunctions utilizing relays, timers, and time delay relays.
Troubleshoot cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks, using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter, ohmmeter, and megger.
Maintain, replace, test and reset circuit breakers in switch and substations, at shore installations including pier mounted unit substations and vaults.
Service, maintain, and provide short power cables from pier side shore power mounds to ships.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
You will be required to sign a mobility agreement to accept relocation to other geographic locations if required by the employer.
This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and / or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and / or unusual duty hours may be required.
