Job Summary
Independently manages and provides technical direction in conjunction with faculty director for a complex academic or research program of high visibility. Develops the long-term vision and goals, policies and procedures, as well as managing ongoing of program(s) and oversees a fairly large operational budget to achieve objectives. Responsible for recruiting and retaining industry leaders to partner with research program in achievement of center goals. Develops and manages a membership program for industry partners. Oversees, through subordinate staff, all strategic elements of program administration including establishing program partners. Uses highly specialized expertise in research or academic specific concepts and objectives.
The Director of Research at the Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative (BHHI) will work under the direction of the BHHI Director to establish and maintain the Program's long-term agenda, funding, and objectives. The Director of Research will be responsible for overseeing all administrative , finance, human resources and facilities for the program and will represent the program to outside organizations. Main responsibilities include managing and supporting multiple Project Managers in varying phases of research, designing / developing major program components (e.g., grant writing, budgeting, Community Advisory Boards, Institutional Review Board applications and modifications, quantitative, quantitative and mixed methods research design, NIH progress reports, Memos of Understanding and data agreements), and administering the full range of the program's operational requirements (planning, community engagement, implementation, tracking progress / meeting milestones, and analysis). The Director of Research will work with the BHHI Director and faculty on formulating long-term strategic planning and short-term planning, including vetting new proposals and making recommendations regarding research opportunities that align with the Program's strategic goals and within staffing and resource capabilities. The Director of Research will draft and implement standardized operating procedures and protocols and act as Quality Assurance for research projects. The Director of Research includes the oversight and management of existing BHHI projects, including : The evaluation of Home Safe for the California Department of Social Services; three National Institutes of Health Research Project Grants (R01s) Advance Care Planning in Permanent Supportive Housing (an RCT); Policing, Housing, and Health Outcomes Among Older Homeless Adults and the longitudinal HOPE HOME study; and non-profit entities; Coordinate Home, a cross disciplinary team that utilizes administrative data from multiple sources to gain insight into housing patterns, service utilization trends, and medical outcomes among San Francisco residents; projects with the State of CA and local entities aimed at building new statewide data infrastructure with which to assess trends in homelessness and service assess across the state.
Additional responsibilities include :
Direct Supervision of multiple staff including statisticians, program managers, and field analysts., Providing operational guidance including managing their work across multiple projects.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $147,600 - $221,300 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative (BHHI) is a research and policy initiative within the Division of Health and Society. The BHHI is an academic program with a focus on developing and disseminating evidence-based solutions to prevent and end homelessness. The BHHI aims to advance and transform policy and practice related to homelessness through : 1) conducting policy-oriented research, using a strategic science orientation and community engaged practices; 2) analyzing existing research and translating it to policy and practice audiences; 3) disseminating findings to key decision-makers in policy, practice and the general public; 4) providing policy translation at local, state, and federal levels; 5) developing and maintaining relationships with a broad array of stakeholders; and 6) training the next generation of policy oriented researchers.
The Division of Health and Society is a research division within the UCSF Department of Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital which focuses on policy-oriented research regarding structural and social determinants of health.
