Location : Detroit, MI (onsite 2–3 days per week)
Pay rate : $40+ / hr DOE
One of our fashion / retail clients is looking for a freelance Product Development Manager to oversee the end-to-end development process for men’s and boys’ product lines while another full‑time employee is on maternity leave.
This manager will ensure the creation of innovative, high‑quality fashion products that align with brand values and market positioning.
Qualifications
BA degree in Fashion Design, Product Development, or related field.
At least 5+ years of experience in product development within the fashion or apparel industry.
Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle from concept to production.
Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop and Microsoft Office.
Experience with PLM systems (NetSuite is a plus).
Experience managing vendor relationships and sourcing materials.
Exceptional organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Passion for product innovation and a keen eye for design and quality.
Candidates must be local to metro Detroit (onsite 2–3 days / week).
Job Responsibilities
Manage the development process from design concept to production approval.
Collaborate with design, merchandise, and production teams to ensure seasonal product alignment.
Manage development calendars to meet key milestones.
Oversee sampling, prototype reviews, and fit sessions.
Partner with QA to ensure products meet quality, performance, and compliance standards.
Work with production, sales, marketing, and e‑commerce teams to support product launches.
Provide product knowledge and technical insights internally.
Facilitate communication to resolve development challenges.
Support implementation and adoption of new Product Lifecycle Management system.
Collaborate with design, merchandising, production, and IT for a smooth transition.
Participate in testing, documentation, and training efforts.
Identify workflow improvements during PLM integration.
Maintain accurate product data in legacy and new systems.
