Job Description

The Certified Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens and providing excellent patient care in accordance with established laboratory procedures and standards. The role requires effective communication with patients, staff, and medical personnel, as well as meticulous attention to detail during specimen collection and handling.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood from patients using various methods, ensuring adherence to established procedures.
  • Verifies patient identification prior to specimen collection to ensure accurate testing.
  • Prepares specimens for processing and assists patients in collecting various types of specimens.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas and ensures availability of supplies.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues and provides information regarding proper specimen collection.
  • Assists with the evaluation of new procedures and equipment as requested.
  • Maintains compliance with safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a certified Phlebotomy program or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomist with ASCP, AMT, CLSI or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with American Heart Association standards, renewable every two years.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
