Overview

Newport News Shipyard Piping Designer

The Engineering Liaison Office (ELO), in conjunction with Piping Design, is presently seeking highly-motivated designers with the ability to develop 3D product model to relocate to Newport News, VA to support Design Yard oversight for COLUMBIA Class construction at the Newport News Shipyard. This position would work for Delano Wilson in the Mechanical and Piping specific COLUMBIA Class deckplate team.

The chosen candidate will be required to answer various types of Change Requests (CRs) / Change Notices (CNs) for COLUMBIA Class Submarines under construction at Newport News Shipyard (NNS) using NX / Team Center. Job will require occasional shipboard investigations on sub-assembly units and modules under various stages of construction. Candidate will be required to interface with NNS trades, engineering, design, construction foreman and planners while developing timely resolutions in consideration of an aggressive construction schedule.

Interfacing with ELO Engineering, EB cognizant Engineering / Design, Materials, Planning, Welding, and Noise Departments will also be required; therefor the ability to work well in a team environment and with outside personnel is pivotal to success at this position. The candidate must also possess sufficient written and verbal skills, as well as the ability to problem solve and prioritize work. Time flexibility is required as work load can vary requiring occasional extended hours.
