Responsibilities
The Specialty Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality patient-centered nursing care within a busy outpatient surgery clinic. This role supports surgeons and advanced practice providers by coordinating patient care assisting with procedures and ensuring that patients receive safe and effective pre- and post-operative education. The Specialty RN plays a key role in clinical assessment care planning and serving as a resource for patients throughout their surgical journey.
Clinical Care & Assessment
Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments obtain medical histories and evaluate patient readiness for procedures.
Provide pre- and post-operative education to patients and families including wound care medication instructions activity restrictions and follow-up requirements.
Assist surgeons and providers during in-office procedures ensuring safe sterile and aseptic techniques.
Administer medications injections and treatments according to provider orders and clinic protocols.
Monitor and respond to patient symptoms concerns and triage calls using evidence-based nursing judgment.
Perform wound assessments dressing changes suture / staple removal and post-op evaluations.
Coordination of Care
Collaborate with surgeons APPs CMAs and multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality and continuity of care.
Coordinate diagnostic testing pre-operative clearances referrals and follow-up appointments.
Support patient safety initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (OSHA CLIA HIPAA etc.).
Maintain accurate timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa (required).
Graduate of an accredited Nursing program (ADN or BSN; BSN preferred).
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or ability to obtain.
Previous nursing experience in a specialty clinic perioperative setting ambulatory surgery procedural area or acute care strongly preferred.
Strong clinical assessment critical thinking and communication skills.
