📍 Location : San Mateo, CA (Hybrid, 2–3 days / week onsite)

💰 Compensation : Up to $230,000 + meaningful equity

A stealth-stage AI startup based in San Mateo is on a mission to reinvent how data science gets done . Founded by former Uber engineering leaders with a successful exit behind them already, the company is building an AI agent that automates the most time-consuming parts of the data science lifecycle.

Their technology combines generative AI, large-scale optimization , and custom infrastructure to accelerate model development from weeks to minutes - covering everything from data wrangling to model training and production deployment.

The team includes engineers and researchers from OpenAI, Scale AI, Snowflake, Nuro, Mailchimp, Databricks, Cloudera, Google, Facebook, and more - with academic roots at Princeton, Berkeley, and MIT . They’re also backed by two top-tier VC firms and advised by Fei-Fei Li , one of the most respected minds in AI.

The Role – Founding Engineer (Frontend Leaning)

The company is looking for a Founding Engineer to lead the development of their user-facing products - the critical layer between a powerful AI agent and its users. This person will shape the frontend architecture, build developer-facing tools, and influence product direction from day one.

You will :

• Build and iterate on a React + TypeScript WebApp and VSCode extension
• Design and implement agent-driven workflows, chat interfaces, and developer-friendly UIs
• Work closely with a world-class backend and ML team to ship high-impact features
• Own core decisions around architecture, performance, and user experience
• Help create tools that simplify complex ML workflows for technical teams

Ideal Candidate

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of developer experience, UX, and infrastructure . You may have worked at a BI company, an ML tooling startup, or built internal platforms at a high-growth company - and you care deeply about building elegant interfaces for complex systems.
