Job description

Manager Synchronous Condenser

This is an open position at FirstEnergy Service Co, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. Job Responsibilities Directs a variety of tasks and personnel in the operation and service of equipment, systems and processes in the safe and environmentally responsible production of electricity. This includes the direction of unit operations, safety programs, environmental compliance, budgetary control, efficient use of resources, prudent labor relation actions and awareness of operational, technical and business trends in the utility industry. This position reports to the VP Operations. Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the 5 synchronous condensers units
  • Responsibility for safety of employees and visitors at the site, including the execution of our safety programs and policies.
  • Responsible for environmental requirements and performance of the site.
  • Performs the duties of subordinates in their absences.
  • Directs operational feedback to internal and external groups to be certain projects and repairs to plant equipment are completed in a safe, reliable, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Acts as the outage manager for planned site outages
  • Interacts and is able to clearly communicate with corporate groups, vendors, consultants and regulatory agencies in all facets of operational activities which may involve safety, environmental, labor and technical processes.
  • Interacts with Asset Utilization and Akron Control center to plan and schedule outages & derates as needed at the most economically advantageous timing.
  • Responsible for the O&M and Capital budgets to operate and maintain the facility.
  • Effectively deal with public and government representatives on various community / station matters.

Qualifications :

  • Highly motivated and approachable leader, with a demonstrated track record of safe operations excellence and people leadership.
  • Functions both independently and as part of a team and can communicate, promote, and drive positive change and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated learning agility and ability to develop technical acumen and working knowledge of the Eastlake Synchronous Condenser.
  • Seven years' experience in the electric utility industry highly preferred - (generation operations, generation maintenance, or engineering) including performance in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience administering collective bargaining agreements and HR policies fairly and equitably for all employees is highly desirable.
  • Lead by example, facilitate and lead teams through change, promotes the values of trust and integrity.
  • Analyze difficult and complex issues and strategies, reach sound and logical fact-based conclusions and recommendations.
  • Evaluate departmental practices and make sound recommendations for improvements; develop and implement appropriate procedures and controls.
  • Exercise sound expert independent judgment and political acumen within general policy guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.
  • Operate and learn various computer applications as needed.
