Job Summary
The Executive Director of Enterprise Coding and HIMS is a high-level leadership role responsible for driving transformative change within UCSF Health's coding processes and technologies while also maintaining significant coding and HIMs operations, focusing on both professional coding and hospital coding. Under the direction of the Vice President of Revenue Cycle, it is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of services related to the health information (medical records), coding revenue and HIPAA Compliance for the consolidated HIMS UCSF HEALTH Departments of UCSF Health; UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco and Oakland (3 Facilities), Community Hospitals, onsite and physically separate community Clinics and Practices and affiliates.
This role is crucial for aligning both coding and HIMS operations with leading industry practices, increasing efficiency, and centralizing functions. This role will ensure the maximization of single path coding processes, leveraging top AI tools and platforms like 3M Solventon and SmarterDx to improve accuracy, efficiency, and quality of coding. The Executive Director will lead efforts to insource coding functions, develop a stratified coding team with clear career paths, and build a robust quality and training unit. This position requires strong emphasis on change management, leadership, and communication skills to ensure smooth transitions and successful implementation of strategic initiatives.
Involves the retention and security of patient care information. Develops and coordinates policies and procedures incorporating legal, ethical, regulatory, accrediting standards, licensure requirements and vendor contract agreements. Works with information systems to establish best practice applications and data storage. Provides oversight of units that typically include transcription, coding and abstraction. The position will also oversee the management, security, and integrity of all health information systems and records within our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health information management, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle complex data systems efficiently.
The salary range for this position is $164,300 - $399,100 (Annual Rate).
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description
UCSF's Revenue Cycle department manages the process from patient pre-registration to final payment, ensuring accurate and timely billing and reimbursement services by handling charge capture, coding, claim submissions, payment posting and collections. Key functions include data integrity for efficient billing, claim denial resolution and appeals, identifying and correcting coding and process gaps, and collaborating with clinical and business departments to improve workflows and maintain regulatory compliance, ultimately minimizing financial losses and maximizing organizational reimbursement.
