Industrial Fire, EMS & Security Technician

A day in the life

You begin your shift at U. S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works with a radio check and apparatus inspection. A call comes in : medical assist on patrol. You respond, stabilize, and document. Minutes later, a fire alarm triggers—your team deploys, bringing fire apparatus online, coordinating suppression, and securing the scene. Between calls, you conduct patrols, investigate incidents, and prepare precise reports. By the end of your rotating shift, you’ve protected people, property, and operations across a heavy industrial steelmaking environment.

What you will do

  • Respond to emergencies across patrol, fire, and EMS disciplines at Mon Valley facilities.
  • Operate and maintain fire apparatus and related equipment.
  • Perform integrated fire protection and site security duties.
  • Conduct investigations and write factual, detailed incident reports.

Where you will work

This role is based in a heavy industrial setting across the Mon Valley Works. Conditions vary by area and can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

Schedule

  • Rotating shifts, including Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Overtime as needed.
  • Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Pennsylvania EMT or National Registry EMT (or higher).
  • At least 2 years of experience spanning medical, fire, and security.
  • Certified Firefighter I — Pro Board or IFSAC.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure during emergencies.
  • Skilled in investigations and report writing.
  • Hazardous Materials Operations; rope and confined space rescue capabilities.
  • Preferred skills

  • Paramedic or Advanced EMT.
  • Hazardous Materials Technician.
  • Association Firefighter 1 / 2 certification preferred.
