Multiple vacancies are available at either the Metrology Development Engineer II o r Senior Metrology Development Engineer level. This position may be filled at the higher-level title, relative to the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

The selected candidate will work as part of a close-knit team in establishing the measurement and characterization infrastructure for Texas Institute for Electronics (TIE). A Metrology Development Engineer II or Senior Metrology Development Engineer must be well-versed in all aspects of thermal and mechanical metrologies spanning fundamental theory and design to practical application of novel measurement methods. Essential to the role is collaboration with engineers and technicians across TIE to anticipate and address their design and development needs, assist in process and tool optimization, and participate in industry standardization efforts. The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player and serve as a critical member of the product development engineering team.

Purpose

The Senior Metrology Development Engineer helps the design, process and quality development efforts related to semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes that will enable the 3DHI systems of the future.

Responsibilities

Lead the selection, procurement, installation and qualification of metrology equipment and systems.

Develop a TIE-specific metrology tool set that effectively measures electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance metrics for 3DHI systems.

Support TIE by providing accurate and actionable measurement data to sister groups working on process development.

Provides vision and direction in developing forward-looking measurement technologies and establish a robust metrology roadmap.

Drive corrective actions as a part of cross-functional teams to identify systemic yield and reliability issues. This includes performing failure analysis to troubleshoot / root-cause.

Participate in the hiring process for technicians and junior engineers to support the workforce development of TIE.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or other relevant discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience working in Mechanical R&D roles with prior experience in metrology labs and semiconductor industry.

Skilled in all aspects of thermal and mechanical metrologies spanning fundamental theory and design to practical application of novel measurement methods.

Mission oriented approach with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a collaborative team environment.

Experience writing and working with project level requirements and specifications.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as attention to detail.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a startup or research and development (R&D) environment.

Prior experience in semiconductor design, characterization, and / or process integration.

Solid understanding of semiconductor packaging technologies, including wire bonding, flip-chip, wafer-level packaging, and 3DHI a plus.

Prior experience in software development for hardware control and instrumentation.

Experience leading teams, working with contractors and managing people.

Salary Range

$100,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Use of manual dexterity (ex : using a mouse)

Work is performed on-site in a scientific research environment and prototyping facility with dynamic work conditions collaborating simultaneously with many partners / customers in parallel.

Work outside standard office hours could be required on an occasional basis during peak periods and special events.

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position may have the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, dependent upon the job profile you qualify for, and subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
