The unit has a total of 20 beds and a staff of 40. On the day shift, there is 1 charge nurse, 5 nurses, and 3 techs. On the night shift, there is 1 charge nurse, 5 nurses, and 2 techs. The estimated patient ratio is 1 : 4, with charge nurses being free of patients. The unit is equipped with vents, feeding pumps, IV pumps, wound vacs, specialty beds, suction devices, and chest tubes. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. Most recruited candidates are travel RNs, local CNAs, and sitters. Candidates without the required skills will not be considered for this role. Preferred candidates will have ACLS certification. Typical procedures performed in this unit include placing chest tubes and bedside bronchoscopies. The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys working with a highly acute patient population. The unit is known for its challenging and interesting cases, great teamwork, motivated nurses, and supportive charge nurses. There is excellent tech support available during both day and night shifts. The unit has wonderful physicians who contribute to a positive work environment.
