Job description

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Residence Hall Director a full-time 12-month live-in administrative role within the Department of Residence Life. Residence Hall Directors are integral members of the Residence Life team supporting a holistic and student-centered residential experience grounded in the Universitys mission vision and core values.

This position provides leadership supervision crisis response and community development in a residence hall serving 50250 students. The hall overseen in this role features suite-style rooms with shared bathroomshousing first- through fourth-year studentsoffering unique opportunities for intentional engagement creative programming and community building.

The Residence Hall Director plays a key role in fostering an inclusive supportive and academically enriched living environment and collaborates closely with campus partners across the University. Responsibilities

  • Supervision

Directly supervise 610 undergraduate student staff members.

  • Provide training performance evaluation and ongoing development support.
  • Residence Hall Administration & Management
  • Oversee the daily operations of a co-ed residence hall housing 50250 students.

  • Manage processes for check-in / check-out room changes key administration and facility needs reporting.
  • Facilitate roommate mediation and serve as a resource for personal and interpersonal concerns.
  • Maintain visible presence and hold regular office hours.
  • Oversee hall programming initiatives related to academics wellness diversity service vocation community development and leadership.
  • Manage a programming budget effectively.
  • Partner with the Director of Student Conduct regarding student behavior concerns.
  • Crisis Management
  • Serve in the on-call rotation supporting the broader Residential Education program.

  • Assess student needs provide immediate support and refer to appropriate campus resources.
  • Collateral Assignment
  • Receive additional responsibilities based on departmental and institutional needs.

  • Potential partnership areas include Residence Life Mental Health & Wellness Housing Recreational Services and Student Engagement.
  • Departmental Support
  • Contribute to department-wide initiatives assessment and committee work.

  • Represent Residence Life and Student Affairs at campus events and programs.
  • Assist with summer housing camps and conference operations.
  • Availability for evening weekend and holiday commitments as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development theory and its application in residential settings.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to articulate the purpose and value of the residential experience to students families and colleagues.
  • Experience with crisis intervention conflict management and community engagement.
  • Strong written verbal and electronic communication skills.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation and assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Ability to create communities welcoming and belonging.
  • Interacting with students faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of viewand a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culturemust be a top value of the candidate.
