Job Title : Employment Counselor - Community
Reports To : Programs & Partnerships Manager
Summary : Under the direct supervision of the Programs & Partnerships Manager, the Employment Counselor supports community clients through providing community resources, support in removing barriers to employment and guidance towards stable employment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain a small caseload of 30-day / 60-day individuals, helping them with outside employment and providing supportive services to remove identified barriers.
- Act as an on-site resource to individuals accessing the computer lab, including helping them access computer software.
- Maintain a calendar of activities undertaken in the computer lab and track the number of individuals utilizing the lab.
- Provide guidance and coaching to help individuals resolve issues and remain motivated to obtain and maintain outside employment.
- Determine CAL-VIP grant eligibility and enroll / support qualified individuals through grant funds.
- Track transitional employment progress through monthly check-ins and case notes in Care4.
- Refer clients to Workforce activities such as resume building, practice interviews, job applications, computer assistance, cover letters, reference letters, and job search guidance.
- Capture placements by collecting employment information or a copy of their pay stub.
- Submit success stories.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of employment readiness classes and workshops for all clients.
- Provide job retention / follow-up services to community clients.
- Participate in team meetings, maintain hard copies of participant files and supporting documentation of all services provided.
- Refer community clients to other agencies for assistance.
- Supervise Employment Service Assistant(s) in the computer lab and track their hours.
- Open and close the computer lab and maintain the general cleanliness and capacity of workstations.
- Attend morning meetings at 8 : 50 a.m. (Monday through Friday).
- Report maintenance problems to the Programs & Partnerships Manager as they occur.
- Enforce procedures for the use of computers, printers, copiers, supplies, and other materials.
- Perform other duties upon request.
Basic Qualifications
HS Diploma / GED; AA / BA desirable.1+ year(s) of experience in workforce development.1+ year(s) of experience working with vulnerable populations.Optimistic and adaptive collaborator, even in ambiguity.Able to work under pressure and maintain excellent time management and organizational skills.Proficiency in all basic computer platforms, including word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, client management software, and e-mail.Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business and grant documentation.Able to present information in a variety of formats (narrative, statistical, oral).Commitment to the mission and vision of Homeboy Industries, with a specific focus on achieving quality jobs for all trainees.Physical Demands
