Behavioral Health Security Officer

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Public Safety, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.
Responsibilities for the Behavioral Health Security Officer :
- Prepare preliminary reports on all incidents, to include patient abuse, thefts, assaults, and contraband.
- Assist in de-escalation of unruly patients, residents and clients, to ensure facilities remain safe.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable CALEA standards. Ensure that all contractual agreements are met within our responsible area including completing all supporting documentation.
- Enforce parking rules, issues warning and summons tickets and maintain traffic control as needed.
- Assist law enforcement officers in searching for vehicles, employees and visitors as needed. Being alert for drugs, alcoholic beverages, and weapons, etc. Assist in extinguishing fires and maintain crowd control if necessary.
- Respond to fire alarms or other emergency calls, when directed.
- Maintains and operates security devices in a security setting, such as gates, doors, and other mechanical devices.
- Serve as backup for any dispute within a secure facility requiring assistance and crisis intervention.
- Assist in escorting groups of patients / clients to therapeutic events, attend job related schools and / or classes as directed.
Minimum and Additional Requirements :
A high school diploma and relevant experience, experience in security, correctional or Law EnforcementMust become Class II certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) within 6 months of hirePreferred Qualifications :
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.Additional Comments :
