Associate Engineer Mechanical Citywide

Overview

Under general direction, the Associate Engineer performs professional engineering work in the field and office and supervises the work of junior and assistant engineers, technicians, inspectors, surveyors and other related personnel engaged in engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering designs, drawings and specifications; prepare cost and quantity estimates for labor, materials and equipment associated with construction, contractors, suppliers, installation, repair, restoration and maintenance.
• Provide engineering support to operations staff; review existing conditions and conduct studies by identifying, obtaining and analyzing samples and data; analyze and resolve problems to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards and specifications.
• Supervise the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications and calculations; assign and review the work of subordinate staff and consultants; determine resources necessary to complete assigned work.
• Review plans, permit applications and specifications developed by staff, consultants and contractors; verify quantities, dimensions, safety requirements, and quality of work for engineering projects.
• Prepare and supervise the preparation of a wide variety of technical engineering reports and other documentation; interview, select, train, monitor, evaluate and counsel staff; prepare a variety of bid documents; review and analyze bids; conduct meetings and make presentations.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

Some positions may require lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions and outdoors; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods and over uneven surfaces. Positions may require specific schedules including weekends, holidays, part time, nights, and / or overtime.
